I’ve not been to a perfect seder. Maybe somebody, someplace, somewhere Conducted a perfect seder each detail attended each attendee attending All sang with fervor all prayed with intention. Never for me, someone complained —too long —too late —too early —too short —too boring —too much Too many questions, Too few answers, Too many comments I don’t understand I don’t want to understand The food is getting cold. Let’s skip this, let’s skip that I remember a story, and I intend to recount at length…. Please enough, we heard that already, already Too much food! Is there enough food? More wine! After all this a political spat Too much God! Too little God! What are miracles? Why are miracles? Do you really believe all that? And after all that let’s sing a song if you don’t know the tune la-la-la along. After all that, and after all that Next year in Jerusalem A promise? A hope? An oath? The messianic yearning? The cry of the broken-hearted In a broken-hearted world? The Lord got us out, The seder is The beginning. The land, the redemption A lifetime away. Next year in Jerusalem L’shana haba b’Yerushalayim Next year in Jerusalem we yearn The seder’s ending might be a mending Of the world’s broken-hearted, For us, and maybe Egypt too. 04/10/25 13 Nissan
How well said! So many comments. remarks and criticisms. Well, we now have a grown young man and his buddies who all chipped in to help with the prep and cleanup. And their questions were relevant and appropriate, sometimes colorful. We had a great time 2 nights in a row!!!
