Missing Angels
Six hundred years ago, Angels filled the Jew’s world God’s messengers appearing, Winging, calling, saving, Condemning, Collecting, carrying, wandering, Caring, Protecting, protecting. Each had her own angel. The planets were pushed through the aether by angels; The green shoots burst forth pushed up by angels The wind whispered the hopes uttered by angels On Pesach, each lintel was guarded by angels. Hovering above every cradle were the angels. They’ve returned to the world-to-come; Now we know the mechanics of the planets, The biology of the wheat blossoms. Some mysteries revealed and the angels Have returned. Would that we had the angels now To care, watch, succor our wounded. The world-of-now needs the angels Housed in the world-to-come. Come, angels, return to us, angels. We now need, I plead, the lost Enchantment of our angels.
