An Overheard Conversation
A man, newly observant: Rabbi, you’ve all gotten under my skin. Even those mornings when I just kinda wanna take it easy, and lay off all this stuff —pointing to the tefillin strapped to his arm— and this book so daunting, but I’ve still gotta do it all. I can’t get my day going without all this stuff…. Rabbi, responding: I got you. I get up, get dressed, go daven, and the rest of the day, if it all goes the way I hope, I’ve got God on my mind. Man: Fair enough, Rabbi, a good turn around: We’ve got God on our mind, And He’s got us on His. Fair enough, Rabbi, Fair enough.
